A common 56-kilobase deletion in a primate-specific segmental duplication creates a novel butyrophilin-like protein

There’s also this interesting deletion in the region that is common worldwide. It affects both BTNL8 & BTNL3 resulting in a fusion protein. The deletion alters BTNL9 expression. We don’t know its frequency in Polynesians, but we’re working on it! (7/n)
