Harding et al. look at my favorite kind of neurons, the ones that directly receive clock neuron inputs, and find that many of these downstream-of-the-clock neurons show circadian firing phenotypes even when the SCN is cut. https://t.co/DgUvU0Kmh0
Study: “Physical removal of the SCN confirms that neuronal rhythms in ~ 20% of the recorded neurons rely on central clock input but also reveals many neurons that can express circadian variation in firing independent of any SCN input.”
